Non Team Training

09/01/2012

Again we are trying to set-up some group training for you non team guys. We ran one group last term, and they can testify the difference it made to their game. So if you want to improve your game, and steal those last few points off that person you are struggling to beat, then this could be for you. It will again run by our coach Chris Hall, who also coaches our teams. This is aimed at 'improvers', and is not a beginners session. If you have been playing squash last term, and attended any classes, or a regular at club night, then this is for you.

The proposed time is 2-3pm which is already booked. If there is alot of interest, and it is viable for those who can make the 2-3pm timeslot, then we will split it into two sessions, 1.30-2.30 and 2.30-3.30. The coaching will begin in week 3, and will cost £24 for the term which is a bargain. If you are interested please message me on facebook (Jay Warnett). Indicating your availability for the time slots.

Week 9 Charity Tournament Announced

14/11/2011

Warwick Squash is having our first ever charity squash tournament, in support for UNICEF this year!

It'll be held on the weekend of week 9 (3/4 December), and will be at the sports centre. There'll be two categories that you can enter, the novice category for the beginners, and an open category for the rest of you! This isn't open to anyone who has played for the teams, and is an exclusively non-team tournament to get all you intermediate/beginners playing more of the sport that you love!

Everyone is guaranteed at least 2 matches, and your entry fee will be going to charity to help out the less fortunate! Entry to the tournament will cost £5, and you can purchase tournament shirts for an additional £5!

If you are interested (which we think you should be very!), drop us an email at warwicksquashtourney@gmail.com with your full name and contact number, category you want to be in, and t-shirt size if you want one. Do also include any extra donations you intend to make, you bunch of big hearted people!

All entry fees will be collected on the day itself, so do ensure that you can confirm your place! Timings and draws will be out mid week 8, so get your entry in quick!

For any enquires, email warwicksquashtourney@gmail.com as well!

Week 7 Social - Robbins Well followed by Jagermonster

13/11/2011

Apologies for being slow with updating the website recently. Term suddenly got busy

Last week we had a 'chilled' curry social, which was nice to do something different so thanks to everyone who came. This week we ramp it up a gear with a social at Robbins Well on the FRIDAY. The fancy dress theme is superheroes/villains.

We will be starting with a circle at 8pm in the basement of the Robbins well with the usual cheap sponsorship drinks offers as per week 3. After circle, we will chill for a little bit, and then be heading off to evolve for Jagermonster. I have swung us some queue jumps, so provided you are at the circle, you can skip the queue into evolve. Entry into evolve is £5

To help us out with how many we are expecting, please put yourself as attending on the event here. Again if you are a fresher, please like the comment in the group so we can sort you out getting here, and helping you get home

If you still haven't got around to coming to a social, and are feeling a little left out, come join! It promises to be a good evening, and it is never too late to get involved. See you on court!

Week 5 Social - Pop! Army fancy dress theme

31/10/2011

Our weekly social is at Pop! this week with the fancy dress theme being Army. So ensure your uniform is pressed and ready, and get those dog-tags out this wednesday starting at 7pm

Last week saw many non-team members attending, and a few new faces. Infact the non-team prescence outweighed the teams - impressive guys. Keep it up! Some of our regular Pop-ers assure their prescense this week now labs are out the way, so here's hoping for another good turn out. Don't forget, get your tickets here to avoid disappointment, though last week there were still tickets left on the door.

If you still haven't been to a social yet, get yourself down! We don't bite, and it is a great way to meet other members of the club while having a drink or two or three. It doesn't matter that it is week 5 - don't feel like you have left it too late, and just head on down :)

WarwickSquash Relay Team

31/10/2011

Four members from WarwickSquash took part in the Warwick Relays over the weekend. As the name suggests it is a relay race, where each member of the team runs 3.3km over cross country terrain. Warwick Relays are always dominated by athletics-based relay teams, but Mark Le Conte, Duncan Green, Alex Troop and Dan Norman went to represent all that is squash!

Some epic court sprints the night before proved to be the key training factor, bringing WarwickSquash in first out of all the non-athletics team. Another victory for squash! Well done guys.

Week 4 Social - Pop! Cops vs Rioters

23/10/2011

Our weekly social is at Pop! this week with a fancy dress theme of Cops vs. Rioters. So either come as a Cop or a Rioter.

Hopefully we shouldn't have any ticketing problems this week as the freshers passes are now over. But get them early here to avoid disappointment. If you still haven't been to a social yet, get yourself down! We don't bite, and it is a great way to meet other members of the club while having a drink or two or three...

Northumbria Squash Tournament

23/10/2011

There is a tournament in Newcastle on 25th-27th November which is graded as well as having a premier category. So unfortunately if you are a beginner, this tournament is not for you - there are some tournaments with a beginners grade, but unfortunately this is not one of them. If you are non team, as long as you are a regular player, you can enter. Non-team - keep an eye on emails for the internal tournament in week 9. If you are interested... read on.

The cost of entry is £15 (payable by cheque). I will drive us up in the minibus to newcastle on the friday. There are first round matches from friday evening, so we need to leave at 3pm if possible. But this is up for negotiation. I will have us booked in a hotel which will roughly be £30 each for two nights. Some contribution towards petrol will also be requested, but this will be arranged at the time. We may get subsidised by warwicksport for the petrol. While there, on friday and saturday we will hit the town. I will then bring us all back to campus/leamington on the sunday after the finals have been. So basically its a weekend away, with lots of squash, as well as social.

I anticipate that there may be alot of interest, so I will take the first 15 who email me at wstournaments@gmail.com. I will then message people who are interested to arrange everything else including entry forms etc.

Instead of official grading, this tournament is using a seeding to place people in categories. So I shall follow the seeding we have from the teams, and if you are non-team, what I have seen of you at club night, to pass on your 'ability'.

Please get back to me by wednesday if you are interested. If you want more information, just speak to me at club night on tuesday - i am trying to avoid a full inbox.

Week 3 Social - Academy of WarwickSquash

15/10/2011

No ticket problems this week as the social is being held at the Robbins Well in Leamington spa! It kicks off at 8pm where we have half of the top bar area all to ourselves and this is where we will meet

This social will be an induction to the Academy of WarwickSquash, with teachers Miss Balkwell, Mr Troop, Mr Bensley and Mr Le Conte. There will be several lessons to attend with different activities, and a few challenges throughout the night. More will be revealed on the evening! Please join the event on Facebook here to give us an idea on numbers

Come along in school fancy dress, with a white shirt/t-shirt that you do not mind being drawn on.

If you are a fresher a member of the exec will meet you at the bus stops on campus and bring you to leamington. We will also ensure you get the last bus back. FRESH - like my post in the event so I know who you are and we can arrange to meet you

So if you haven't been to a social yet, come! It promises to be an awesome eveing, and is a great way to meet other members of the club. If you are worried about coming along on your own, then feel free to bring a housemate. But seriously, we don't bite, so don't be nervous about coming, even if you don't know many people at the club yet.

The ladder

13/10/2011

The ladder is all sorted and tidy now! People have already been playing matches which is great, so keep it up and keep challenging!

At the beginning of the year, the ladder is a bit of a mixed bag in terms of ability, so you may find that you get some really hard/easy games at the start. Don't be discouraged. As people play, the order will even out. We will also be giving out prizes for the ladder this year, although it is yet undecided what for. But we will do our best to make it fair and celebrate success at both ends of the ladder.

Remember that you must be a member of WarwickSquash to play in the ladder. Memberships will be checked next week and if you are in the ladder but do not have a membership, you will be removed. You have been warned!

Good luck in your matches!

Duncan

Pop! Week 2 - Prehistoric Themed, Week 3 Social, and Club Night

09/10/2011

As the title says really…

Again, Pop! has completely sold out this week. Hopefully a few of you took my advice and got your ticket early! Week 3 our wednesday social will be help in leamington, so no need to worry about getting a Pop! ticket early. If you are fresh, we will meet you on campus to bring you over!

Club night again this week? Damn right! If you were new to Squash and gave it a go on Tuesday or Thursday, please come back! Hopefully we will have a beginners court, and myself and other members of the exec will do some more training with you. And then we will all have a few games

Welcome back from WarwickSquash! And hi to the new guys/girls!

06/10/2011

I hope everyone had a great holiday, and ready for a full year of squash! We have been working very hard to try and make this the best year for WarwickSquash yet! It's been great chatting to you all at sports fair, the taster sessions, the free coaching and trials. And well done to those who made it to Pop! Tickets had sold out very early so I know a few people were disappointed and unable to come. But there is always next week!

Trials were packed this year and a thanks to everyone who tried out. Well done to those who made it through, and good luck for friday! If you didn't make it through there are still plenty of ways to get involved. There are club nights Tuesday and Thursday - just turn up and play! This includes tonight. I will be there so I hope to see you too! There is an internal ladder (click the link on the left) so you can play people you haven't before. Also there are weekly socials… this is all my area!

WarwickSquash is really for all people, team and non-team. This includes the socials! I myself am currently non team, and I have had a great time at socials, and hence why I wanted social sec this year! Next week it is at Pop! again with a Prehistoric theme. Get your tickets early here.

The other big thing this year is that we are now sponsored by Robbins Well, in Leamington Spa. This means we have more money to spend on the club which is great! In addition for you guys, this means that you get CHEAP DRINKS DEALS ALL YEAR. To get the offers you need a sponsorship card which will be handed out at the social in week 3 that will be held at the pub. So another reason to get yourself down there. And if you wanted to plan ahead… it will be school themed.

Enough ramblings. Welcome back. Welcome new guys and girls. See you on court!

We expect demand to be high and there will be limited places, so get down early to sign-up.

If you are interested in some coaching to improve your game then there are beginner, improver, and advanced classes that run for 9 weeks for £26. To be a part of these sessions, contact Zoe Evans at the sports centre.

New Website Construction

05/08/2011

Heading into the 2011/12 academic year, we are bringing to you a fresh new website. It is hoped that the new website will be more useful for members of Warwick Squash, with the main page displaying notices which will be regularly updated. The information which was here before can still be found such as fixtures, the weekly schedule, the ladder and the exec. But there are some new areas too: Training (team and non team), Getting Involved, Tour, Meet the Teams and Charities. We hope that you find this new website more intuitive, and if you have any suggestions, please email me!
