Ladder

Joining the Ladder

This year we are returning to our successful ladder system we had last year. It will be set up when the term starts, and from then, it is free to join as a member of the squash club. It is a great thing to enter whatever standard you are, and has a great history of transporting you straight into the teams for good performances.

The ladder we have set up can be found by clicking here

You will have to regsiter with the website in order to join the ladder. It is probably best to have your name as the username you use for your warwick email or an email that you can check regularly. When you join can you put your full name and/or your Uni number (eg 0923149) so we can check that you are a member of the squash club.

Ladder Rules

The Ropey Ladder doesn't believe in taking ladders too seriously - it spoils the fun - so the following rules should be applied with a degree of flexibility and good humour. Remember, it's only a game!...

  • You can challenge players who are up to a maximum of 5 places higher than you on the ladder.
  • New players will be assigned 3 free challenges anywhere in the ladder to ensure that stronger players find their appropriate level sooner.
  • Once a challenge has been set no other challenge can be taken on until the match has been cancelled, forfeit, or played and the results entered.
  • If the challenger wins the match, the challenger moves above his opponent in the ladder. If the challenger does not win both players stay in their current positions.
  • If the match results are not reported on www.ropeyladder.com within 2 weeks of the challenge being set, the challenge will be automatically forfeit.
  • The venue should be in a mutually convenient location for both players.
  • If a player fails to turn up for an arranged match the other player wins by default.
  • Matches must be played to best of 3 games or more as agreed by the players (to a maximum of best of five games).
  • 9 points are necessary to win a game, except when both players score 8 points, in which case, the first player to score 8 points chooses whether 9 or 10 points are necessary to win the game.
  • The rules of the game, provided by the World Squash Federation, can be found here

A couple of quick answers to questions:

  • The scoring is the tradtional hand in- hand out scoring to 9 (You only win a point when you serve)
  • Please try and play best of 5 games, if you run out of time and get kicked off the court try and find another one. If not then try and come to some sort of agreement to the winner or draw. If all else fails email the squash club and we will try and sort the situation out. Remember its for fun!
  • As far as free challanges goes - If you have a free challange then the next challenge you make regardless to if it is within the normal 5 place limit will be counted as a free challange.
  • If you can't remember the exact scores to matches, just roughly put in what you remember (This happens quite a lot in competitive team squash, so don't worry!). It is more the result that counts not the details!
